I feel it's very harmful to society. Unstable people tend to copy the negative things they see and hear. Therefore causing a ripple effect in society today.
The media tends tends to sensationalize the negative,,thinking this will raise their ratings. If the public starts to bombard them with e-mails and telephone calls, and stop watching, it will change.[just like the situation with Va. Tech, the public outcry was for them to stop showing pictures of the murderer and they did.] We [the public ] need to insist on more positive news. They say that one voice or one does not make a difference, but 1 plus 1 is 2 and 2 plus 2 is 4 and so on .By the way, good question.

"Why IS THE Media repeatedly showing ONLY the negative side?" Is this not harmful to society in general?"
You do need to be more specific. What media? What society? Yes, there is a connection with the content the media shows and their popularity ratings, and earnings from commercial sponsors. Positive things are shown on the media. Would you prefer it if the media only showed the positive repeatedly, and not the negative. I for one would not.

Yes, I know.
I'll bet people all over the world think U.S. citizens all must weigh 500 pounds. The media is really having a blast with that BS. Notice how they show the same pictures over and over of the same obese people walking down the street? I can show you a public park full of people and not a single obese person out there.
Then they tell you America will just be obese all over the place by 2015. Well, they also say 40% of Americans don't have health insurance. Okay so, If 40% of them don't go to the doctor regularly, how the **** do they know how much that 40% of the population weighs?
I don't think the Media knows that most of us are laughing at them.

Education through mass media is not better than classroom teaching. Becoming education through television courses and computer driven classes offers these advantages. It is fast and allows you develop some understanding for a limited amount of time. It may offer certificates of completion and even diplomas as well. however, it disadvantages fare outweigh its advantages. First, there is usually no group of people that you may interact with, socialize with. Second, the access to the teacher in some cases is limited and not so personal. Third is that the certificates or diplomas are usually not accepted in pursuing a higher education or even being admitted to the traditional university. Fourth, it is not even possible to compete in the job market with persons who have a high school, college, or higher degree. Obtaining a high school education or a college education has more advantages that disadvantages. First is that it is widely accepted as a credential that shows that a person can handle the stresses and strains of a four year college degree. Second, one can develop friends, contacts, and even future job opportunities with classmates, teachers, and other professionals. Third, a college education shows that one can survive the trials and stresses of presenting in front of a group, learn from a group, and socialize and be socialized from a group. Lastly, job opportunities that pay better, promote more often, and are in better job environments go to people with a higher education. Good luck.

it is natural- in our body we have so many parts, we never feel
all body parts very times, but if one part affected- or got pain we felt it immediately. society is just a human body, media
is the nervous system of it
so the media is always give important to negative things .

Negative things are highlighted because of people's reckless, irresponsibility, non-awareness, useless to society and etc.People themselves realise their potential, somewhat contribution to public, Lacking knowledge of Political issues and etc.First of all..all countries are believing their Political leaders, they never fulfil their people vision ,mission and values.....Media should not be one sided..it should be focused for all things.....

Yes, i agree. It does do harm to society and we learn by what we are taught by those who have been given the task of servant hood. which goes to prove that all servants are not good servants. It is wise to liston only to keep choice of menu. feeding our minds is feeding our bodies. What have we been eating for so long? Spoiled and rotting, poisoned words.

I agree that it is harmful, but the news is run by ratings. Bad news sells, especially if it is graphic and horrible.
