It is an addiction. It can be the thought, like in a fantasy or a memory. It can be the sensation, like in orgasm. It can be a deep emotion, like in the unity of two lovers. In any event it soon becomes an addiction and one that people generally are not really aware of. For this reason we say it is built in to our instinctive nature, but that is just another attempt at explaining something we don`t know.

A desire by definition cannot be a feeling. The desire to mate is a compulsion born of instinct.

Yes it is. There is a saying that "We are the genes method of replicating itself". Mating is conditional. Love is not.

it depends on whether you're talking about ANIMALS or PEOPLE. i don't think you'd refer to it as the "desire to mate" if you were talking about people.
