I'll eat at Chipoltle before McDonald's. Becasue I can see what I'm getting, and how my food is being made (I don't have to worry about some kid dropping my food on the floor and then plopping it on the plate/bun) I prefer it better. However, I do not know if the beans have lard in them. Also, they use white rice which I do not like. However, the are one of two fast food restaurants that actually cater to vegans. I would just as soon make a burrito or two at home with brown rice (or beans and rice on whole wheat bread) than go out anyway, unless I'm with a group of friends for something. Besides, where I live there are several other restaurants that are healthier and yummier. (There are at least five or six restaurants within walking distance from me, including a coffee house where I can get a satisfactory meal at a satisfactory price.)

Chipotle has all natural chicken, in some markets, raised without antibiotics on a vegetable diet, naturally raised pork and beef. The rice, black beans, fajita veggies, salsas, guacamole and cheese are all vegetarian friendly. Other than the meats, pinto beans (with bacon), cheese, sour cream and honey vinaigrette for salads, everything else on the menu is vegan. The cheese is processed with vegetable-based rennet, rather than the more commonly used animal-based version, in order to be suitable for vegetarians. Additionally the sour cream comes from cows that are not treated with rBGH. It should be noted that while the ingredients are healthier than most fast food joints, an average burrito from Chipotle has over 1000 calories.

I didn't know people considered them healthy. That is interesting. This is what people (myself included) get for not investigating stuff.
I always order a Caesar salad when I go out to dinner because it is my favorite. Everyone mentions how healthy I eat. The salad has many calories in it. Yes it may be somewhat healthy but the calorie count is not low. People just look at some food items and think "low cal" or "healthy" without looking at what we are adding to it.

It's probably more a case of portion vs. nutrition. Many of the elements that go into a Chipotle burrito are relatively healthy and free of preservatives, etc., but that is ONE BIG FRIGGIN' BURRITO. I've guesstimated that my favorite (steak with pinto beans, sour cream, cheese, red sauce) comes in at around 1200 calories. Meaning to keep my figure less burrito shaped, I'd better have a light breakfast and dinner.

Society bases what they want to believe by perception. Chipotle serves fresh ingredients that are prepared in front of the customer and they also get to pick and point which ingredients they would like on their meal. Giving the consumer fresh ingredients, combined with the ability to see the food and choose what they like, leads to the perception that what they are eating there is healthier than what they get by going through a drive thru.
Chipotle does not publish their nutritional information, but you can still find it listed by the ingredient.

Probably not so much healthy, but that it tastes good because it is prepared after you order it and not before like McDonald's.
