My riding lawn mower (with a briggs/straton 17hp twin II engine) takes (I Think) 10-W30 but I accidentaly put 5-w30 in it. Will that hurt it?

No. You might want to change it. Most lawnmowers take 30W straight weight.

The first number is for cold temperature viscosity. You will cause no harm at all for the lawn mower. It will better protect the engine if you are starting it at below freezing temperatures...

Just put straight 30 wt in it. That is what the manufactor recommends.

No the 5w/30 will not harm it.......
