I think you should begin at home before adopting from overseas. Too many kids here are homeless/in the system.

No, because at least American children have a better chance of surviving even if their own parents turn against them as we have better social service programs that are non-existant in 3rd world countries.

There are countries (in many parts of Asia) even in this day and age that kill newborn girls at birth if the parents cannot afford a dowry. An orphanage to deposit the girls with hopes a foreign adoption at least give them hope for survival.

People in America, even if poor, have a better chance of providing for their children on welfare than most 3rd world countries ever will.

Many kids in the foster system are older and people are less willing to adopt due to behavior problems or even in the event of children that are still deperately wanting to be loved are afraid the child's loyalties are elsewhere or they are too much hassle long term and many end up in group homes and if they have sibling of different ages or sexes, split apart.

Why are you worried about where someone decides to put there money any time? If they are a helping another human being why does it matter what the nationality of the child is? If you feel so concerned with American children you should go do something to help instead judging what others do.

You already mentioned the problem: there are a lot of American CHILDREN needing homes. Most people who find themselves in a position to adopt (infertility, ect) usually want infants, not children.

The waiting list for a healthy American-born infant is YEARS. Why? Because abortion is legal here and there are more potential parents than babies up for adoption (small pool). People would rather kill their babies than give them good homes. When people stop aborting, perhaps American adoptions will be more prevalent.

So, no, I don't have a problem with people adopting from other countries.

I won't say that I disagree with international adoptions completely. It's still providing a home for children. However, I think it would be more...preferable to adopt from your own country. There are a lot of kids up for adoption in the US.

Many adoptive parents want healthy infants, there aren't Amercing born healthy infants going unadopted. Requiring adoptive parents to adopt American teenagers instead foreign infants would be a huge interference with personal freedom.

Capitalism allows one to spend ones own money however, they wish. If one want to buy a Hummer that gets 9 mpg one is free to do so. If one want to help needy children in the USA one is free do so. If one want to help needy children overseas one is free to do so.

There is a way to direct Oprah to spend more money on needy American children. Raise taxes and spend more on domestic social programs.

I thought you lived in a free country, where people could do what they want with their time and money?

What makes America more worthy of aid than third world countries? A child is a child, no matter where they're from.

I totally agree with you. We need to take care of our own, first. I guess Americans aren't aware of the adage, "charity begins at home". Our stupid government is spending billions of dollars to fight an unjust war (against the will of the majority of Americans) when all that money could end hunger in the US, provide health care for all of the uninsured, get the homeless off the street, and bolster our schools. Oh. yeah-- Brangelina and their grandstanding adopting foreign kids make me sick!
