Why do Arabs feel proud of their ancients empires and conquests, yet bash and criticize Israel?

Because to Muslims Jews are second of third class citizens. Some people group Jews and Christians as second class others say Christians are second class and Jews third. The Muslims conquered Israel and vowed to have the whole Middle East Muslim and eventually the entire world, but the UN took away some of their land to create Israel which ticked off the majority of Muslims. In short though it's mainly because they don't see the Jews as equal human beings.

Muslims do not consider Christians or Jews Second or Third Class Citizens, on the contrary, they are allowed to get married only from Muslim, Jews or Christians as a Fact (they after all believe in the same God).

People need to have enemies. It makes them feel better to hate a group of people, regardless of whether or not it makes sense. It makes their own lives feel less desperate if they can lay the blame on someone else.
