In the movie "SOMEWHERE IN TIME" where did the watch came from?

remember the movie somewhere in time, richard collier (christopher reeve) got a watch from an old lady and saying "come back to me". that night the old lady died.

later richard found out that the old lady was elise mekena (jane seymour as the young version) which led him to go back in time.

and near the end he was accidentally sent back to the present and left the watch at the past? which leads back to the old lady

WHERE DID THE WATCH REALLY CAME FROM OR WHERE IT STARTED?

i have my theories but i like to hear yours.

I love this movie, and think it's the most romantic movie ever.

I think the watch was his originally, he left it with her in the past. She gives it back to him as an old woman and tells him to "come back to me."

I think it was his watch that left behind with her in the past. She gave it back to him when she is an old lady, when he went back to visited the place.
