I'm a country music purist, and I love them sad ole songs. Some of them are based on real events, while some are just made up, but are written about a subject that is made to pull at your heart strings. Country music has always been raw in emotion and feeling, and that's why when they write a sad song it moves you to emotion. I love REAL country music, and I always will, and it don't matter to me if it's a sad song or a good ole honky tonkin', boot scootin', hell raisin' song, as long as it's REAL country, I love it.Hope that helped ya some. Take care.

Well buffman makes a good point since Shania's early life was full of struggles, she felt there was no need to reflect on that negativity so she concentrated on positive messages and it has made a world of difference for so many people. Everyone has different tastes but in her case she has given a lot of people hope and really pulled some people out of harmful situations they may have never had the inspiration or courage to do so. It is indeed a breath of fresh air. Some people don't want to continue being in a living hell. And Hank is obviously a special writer in his own right. Legendary. Diiferent tastes and different moods. To each their own but I too admire a singer/songwriter who puts a message into their own words and not so much those singers who are handed a song. Does that really have honest meaning? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I like some sad songs when they are necessary but I prefer positive uplifting material. Something that makes you feel good and brings you out of the rut and can change you for the better. Someone as refreshing with a good attitude like Shania, very inspiring. I also appreciate more those singers who write songs and don't buy songs. Shania again is a good example. Toby Keith and Brad Paisley are decent examples as well. Not reflecting much on the problems.

I think many artist take lifes lessons and make songs of them, ans thats not just for country. many artists sing other peoples songs, too. Willie Nelson, John Denver, Bob Dylan,ect.. are song writers as well as artists. The sad songs are to make us feel, just like the happy ones do.
I am a real country fan, as well as a rock fan, but I like most music, except RAP, yuck!

well a lot of the songs arn't "specifically written to make you cry." I think that it is just to make you think about how this stuff could be true for some people. . .for example: mayberry (by Rascal Flatts), this song is about someone with cancer. . . the person who wrote this may not have been talking about a certain person, they might just be explaining how this is true for some people. . .it makes you think twice about how lucky some of us are. . . no it dosn't bother me. . . country singers just have their own uniuqe way of telling stories. . .
i think country music is very peacful. . . I LOVE IT!!!!! . . . . . . .

it's just one of those things they normally overplay those type of songs and people get tired of em and turn them off so they have to release something new and more entertaining i'll wait for you is way overplayed i love that song and joe but come on that song is getting old it's country music you love it or you hate it if you love it but can't stand why they keep playing the same song over and over and over and.......again then change the station and wait for a newer better or older better country song to come on that's what i do cuz i LOVE country

Not Sure, Kelly Pickler Taylor Swift I like Carrie Underwood, don't know any other new names. I haven't listened to the regular radio in a while. I have serius at home set to Roadhouse at the moment and I have mostly old country on cds for my truck so I don't have to listen to the radio. Now Tom T Hall is on "Ravishing Ruby".

Depends on the singer and song. Oh and since this said REAL COUNTRY then to the one who was talking about writing and uplifting I want to make a point. To say they aren't focusing on the problems if you go back to the TRADITIONAL COUNTRY and the ROOTS then you can see they weren't focusing on their problems. Hank Williams Sr. wrote so many sad songs because that was the life he was living. He wasn't focusing on bad things, that was his life in general.

Some of those songs get old fast. that song for me by Joe Nichols i couldnt really stand. but some songs like that I love. depends how cheesy/how well sung/ presented etc. Some good sad songs like MArtina McBride: indepednece day or concrete angel are great songs.
