First you must nickname him "Vin Diesel" from now on . Second you'll have to drop and drain the fuel tank , then change the fuel filter and clean fuel injectors .

Probably a good thing it won't start, because diesel will do serious damage to a gasoline engine. You will have to pull the gas tank and empty it of all contents and flush it out with gas. The next step would be to disconnect the fuel line in the engine compartment and turn on the ignition key. If fuel starts to come out and then quits, you will have to crank on the engine until gas come out. You may have to pull all the injectors and wash with gasoline, or replace them with new if the diesel plugged them up. It may help to soak them in gas overnight.
Replace the injectors, and crank it up. There will be a little knocking and smoking for a few seconds, but it should clear up.
What you didn't say was that your son put diesel in and drove home and then it wouldn't start. If that is the case, you may as well stick a fork in it, because it is done.

Drain the fuel tank. Refill with gas.
Remove all the spark plugs & clean by dipping the electrode end in lacquer thinner. Remove the valve from the fuel rail.[much like a bicycle tire valve] Place a length of fuel hose onto the fitting & other end into a container well away from any ignition sources.
Crank the engine - Does two things
1. Allows the fuel pump to purge the diesel.
2. Clears the cylinders of any remaining residue
Once the fuel runs clear, replace the valve
Replace the spark plugs.
Don't be alarmed if the engine smokes a little.

Contrary to what has been said the diesel in your tank WILL NOT cause damage to your engine (contrary to the fact that petrol in your diesel will) Just drain off and maybe at worst a toe/ bump start will start the engine and it Will be as good as before.
Most of the comments are in relation to a diesel engine being injected with gas.
This is entirely different ans indicated the respondents know too little about the problem you have.
Listen to someone who knows.
Good Luck

Using diesel instead of unleaded will damage the fuel pump, and the fuel lines, and needing to clean the injectors, and to clean the diesel out of the cylinders. Basically, he's killed it

I would not try this and above all I would not let your son do it .
Have it towed to a garage and pay them to flush the tank and lines out with gas a few times and change gas filter and clean fuel injectors . Good luck ,you are due for some .

Drain the tank, blow the lines, and crank till whats i the injectors runs through and fresh fuel gets to the combustion chambers and she'll fire( you may have to pull the plugs to let them and the cylinders dry out)but you really haven't done any damage, she'll fire.

It's unpleasant to admit publicly your son's an idiot, isn't it? You are going to have to drain the tank and flush out the fuel system with gasoline.
