your car doesn't have a clutch if its an automatic, but the automatic does have internal clutches that are probably slipping. first off you want to check your transmission fluid cause if its low it can make the transmission slip, if it is full then it is probably your transmission starting to wear out. you could try buying some transmission additive from an auto parts store that could make it slip less, but if it still slips then your transmission is going to need to be rebuilt soon, so just drive it till it quits.

P.S. check your owners manual about how to check your transmission fluid. most cars you have to check it with the engine running.

Sounds like your transmission is tired as well. The clutch bands are probably slipping. You may need to try an additive to help with this or you may need work on the trans.

yes , it is a transmission or clutch problem . If the rpms wouldnt go up it would be engine related , but since rpms spiked up with no advancement in speed , it is tranny/clutch.

that's a good thing you won't get speeding tickets so easily

no car should go faster than 65. it would save a lot of lives.
