If the baby is in a stroller or being carried and not on the ground it really doesnt matter.

It depends if it's a small baby and not a walking toddler, then it doesn't matter. If the child is walking on their own, then thats a problem. If it's just a baby, the parents are holding the baby or the baby is in a carrier, then it shouldn't matter. Also why spend so much money on baby shoes when the kid can't even walk yet and when their feet will keep growing constantly and those cute baby shoes you bought last week will no longer fit. Thats if the baby can even keep them on for more than 10 minutes. It's not trashy at all for a baby to not wear socks and shoes.

It is very hard to keep shoes and socks on little babies, I can't even tell you how many I've lost that way. Having said that, if it is a little baby that doesn't walk yet, they don't need socks or shoes, and now in the summer I think it is fine if the don't wear any. Why would someone say a baby looks trashy??? I am sorry, your friend is the one with a problem.

If a baby can't walk yet, then it's okay. If they're walking they need shoes for protection. Socks are just to keep warm. But in no way can a baby look trashy.

LOL You really didn't specify a few things with your question, like the age of the baby, or what time of year it was.

But your male friend is ABSOLUTELY WRONG!! "Trashy"?Amazing how men can so easily pass judgement about things they probably know very little about since 95% of them do very little in the way of child rearing. Tell him that babies tend to be much warmer than adults so if the baby can't walk, and the weather is warm, there's no reason why a baby can't go barefoot while in a stroller or carseat, and to get over it sheesh!! If the baby is walking, then it's a toddler and not a baby, so socks and shoes are obviously necessary to protect the feet from injury, as for "sanitation", I don't know of too many toddlers that stick their feet into their mouths, unless "encouraged" by "adults" thinking it's "cute".

Remind your friend that babies can't talk, so when they are uncomfortable, they cry or fuss, which is annoying to not only the mom, who has to deal with it, but those within earshot around them, who are most likely casting "looks" at poor mom. So simple is best, and when it's hot...less is more. People need to have the common sense to dress babies for COMFORT, and not how CUTE they look in their outfits...the only time that is important is during family portrait time. If the family "disapproves" tough tacos, especially if the baby is comfortable and HAPPY. Happy baby = happy mom. A friend of mine had a daughter that she dressed in cute outfits, let's see...the baby was wearing a diaper, a onesie, leotards, rumba panties, a lacy slip, a dress, shoes and a fancy hat. In JULY...in Pittsburgh PA!! Lace is itchy all year round, so I really felt bad for the baby. I was present when mom had a meltdown in a department store...my friend was sobbing and on her knees next to a rack of dresses begging her daughter to please behave....I felt really bad for her, but she couldn't figure out WHY the baby was crying all the time....I had suggested to her before we left to remove some of the clothing, but she wouldn't hear of it.

Personally, I would be more concerned about the idiot parents that tote their children around hatless (I've also seen hatless AND shoeless) during the winter since the majority of body heat is lost through the head. Now THAT is a health hazard for the baby!

When it comes to a baby that can't walk yet, shoes are actually useless. They just wear them to look cute. And socks are only for winter time. Even when they start to walk, it's really hard to get them to keep their shoes on. They need time to get used to them. I 'm guessing your friend doesn't have any kids, and therefore doesn't understand. However it's kind of harsh and rude to call a baby trashy, no matter what they're wearing (or not wearing).

In warm weather, no shoes/socks I think is fine if the baby isn't walking. Walking barefooted through a store DOES look tacky to me. (Not to mention its not safe) In a cart, stroller or being carried with no shoes on is fine though. Those cute little piggy's need some nice cool air on them! That's just my opinion though.

My daughter is one year old and doesn't walk yet. She's RARELY in shoes. What's the point really? They're cute, yeah, but a waste of my money during nice weather.

This is in warm Florida weather. I actually take off my son's shoes and socks off when we go in a public place. He is 7 months old, and loves his sockies and shoesies, and will leave them untouched, so the falling off is not an issue for me (knock on wood) yet, so I always put them on him before we leave the house. However, when we go into the store or whereever, if there will be a lot of people, I take them off. I do this FOR health reasons. I find people are more apt to go for cute little baby toes then chubby cheeks when they are exposed. I would rather older ladies and other adoring, well meaning, yet germy strangers go for toes then his face. It has worked well so far. I plan to continue to do this untill he can walk. Then, of course, he will wear shoes and socks at alll times, or at least sandles to protect his feet. So, no it is not trashy, they are babies!

The kid probably leaves home with shoes and socks on, but do you know how fast a baby can rip off a sock!? In warm weather it's fine..winter time is a different.

I don't think it's trashy. I live in Cali and see a lot of babies w/ no socks/shoes on, including my own. My son always takes off his socks anyways, plus if their not old enough to walk they don't even need to wear shoes.

Ok, a baby....who can't walk on it's own is fine in public without socks. I mean they are usually covered anyway. I have a 3 mo. old and he won't keep his socks on. I think that children who are of walking age need shoes. Mainly for safety reasons. I don't know about trashy looking but it certainly looks unresposible on the parent's part.
