I'm starting a business soon and am finding it very difficult to come up with a catchy name. I asked on here before and got a few ideas but met with my accountant yesterday and he said the name I'd chosen was no good! Basically, my business is an after-school tuition centre in Dublin - it gives extra classes to people who want to get good results in their exams in secondary school. In years to come I plan on branching out and offering morning classes to housewives/retirees etc. as well.

Now, my accountant came up with FACT - standing for Fingal (that's where my business will be located)....... and after that I can't seem to be able to come up with something for ACT - maybe Academic Centre for Tuition??? Doesn't sound great so if you can come up with something better I'd appreciate it. I'm really stuck guys and running out of time as I need to have business registered asap.

If anyone can help I'd be really grateful

FAST (Fingal After School Tuitions). Sums up nicely what your business is about. When you set up morning classes, may be you can come up with another name and run some advertisement campaign.

"The extra mile" is another good choice since it describes the concept of extra effort by them for academic success.

First, as an accountant here in the U.S., I will tell you that though we accountants know a lot, marketing isn't where we put our efforts. His advice may or may not be good. It is simply that: advice. If he gives good reasons, believe it. If not, take it under advisement and use him for the things he's most trained in.

Now, to your point. Put a bunch of ideas together and run them by friends, relatives, potential clients, and others whose opinions you respect. After all, you are naming it to catch the public's attention, not yours or that of your accountant.

Perhaps do some websearching in other countries to see what similar businesses use. I've used some that simply use the owner's initials. This is cryptic, but if advertised properly, can work. (Think 3-M, IBM, AT&T.)

If you believe in yourself, trust your instincts.

Good luck in your endeavor.

Actually FACT sounds to me not bad at all.
I also thought about ES (Extra Studies or Excellent Studies).

How about "Detention". That'll make most people associate it with after school.
If it works, remember who gave you the idea. If it's no good then don't.
