The most famous and probably best known use of the word 'now' comes in Wm. Shakespeare's Richard III -
"Now is the Winter of our discontent made glorious Summer by this noble son of York....."etc.

I don't know, and I'm not sure why you're asking this question, but I do believe that 'now' is a far better alternative to phrases such as 'this moment in time'.
