I got a good one. Was there a president in office for more then two terms? that would be more then 8 years?

Yes, FDR was elected for 4 terms. He died in office. The 22nd admendment was ratified in 1953 to stop any more presidents from doing 2 full terms.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat was elected to four terms, (1932, 1936, 1940, and 1944) although he only served a small part of the last term since he passed away in 1945.

Republicans did not want to see a repeat of this, so they helped support an amendment to the Constitution calling for a president to be elected to no more than two terms.

The irony is that prior to Bill Clinton, the only people seriously damaged by this amendment were Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan--both Republicans! who despite their advancing years could very well have been elected to third terms each.

FDR for way to long,which is why we now have a constitutional amendment for a 2 year term for presidents now.
