People often act on their emotions without thinking. The emotional part of our brain evolved with the idea that we fight or flee. To go beyond these two alternatives requires us to use our thinking ability and come up with a better way, but most of the time we react without thinking and strike out. Anger management tries to get us to think and gives us alternative behaviors and helps us realize that most situations are no longer life threatening.
