what is the difference between commercial akalai and baking soda for disinfecting swimming pools?

alkali and baking soda are used for adjusting the PH of the pool not for keeping the pool water clean.

Neither 'disinfect' the pool- but they are both the same and you can use either for controlling the PH in your pool. Baking soda of course being the cheaper choice! The water in your pool is never perfectly- 'disinfected' there is too much bacteria in the air, on people, etc. But you use shock to get it to where you want it ( on your scale) and the tablets to keep it there.
