Just put in the treatment 10 mins ago.
Ok it turned the water blue???
It also said to remove my carbon filter aka secondary filter on my aqua tech filter??
When is it ok to run my filter again or can I already???
When can I put a new replacement filter in?
Please note the filter that is not to be replaced is of course still in there.
Sorry for all the questions...but I am new to this.

The medication is a dye type medication and very effective for parasites like ick. The carbon will remove it from the water so must be removed. the dye is usually still in your tank for about 24 hours so no carbon while treating but the filter running is okay. Depending on how affected your fish are it may require a few treatments to clear up. The use of an aquarium safe salt can help during treatment (but not so much without the medication) as it irritates the skin of the fish to produce more slime thus sluffing off the parasites from the skin of the fish . As thuis is a normal part of the parasites life cycle they are not dead yet ,thats where having the medication in the water comes in this is when it can kill the parasite. The thicker slime on the fish can also help protect your fish from reinfestation .
Once your fish are clear of disease as your old filter may be used up by the meds replace it with a fresh one.
oh yah during treatment raising the tempurature slightly (to low 80's) will also speed up the process as it speeds up the parasite life cycle.

Hi, Simply using salt is a far better & less intrusive way of treating Ick than pouring in medications, however now you have started-follow the manufacturers instructions carefully. You were right to remove your carbon, the reason being carbon removes impurities from the water so it will also remove the medication & that is what you don't want to happen untill the course of medication is complete.

You can run your filter immediately you have removed the carbon from it-just use the white polyester pads which are inert but will still keep the water polished. Once the medication has been dosed for the recommended time then remove it from your tank using the carbon filter inserts together with partial water changes. Please don't apologise for asking questions-we were all beginners once & didn't have the benefit of the internet!

There should be info on the container. It is ok that the water turned blue. You should keep the filter going, just remove the carbon. For the treatment to be completely effective, there should be some kind of water circulation in the tank. It says to remove the carbon because the carbon will filter out the meds. Usually it is recommended that you leave the carbon out for the full course of treatment.

Everyone is correct in that you keep the filter running and only remove the carbon from the filter. You can replace that carbon in the filter after the treatment is completed. That should be about 7 days after you see the last spot of ich on any fish in the tank. So it could be a while, but stick with it.

Several people have suggested salt and heat to help the cure and I agree 100% with that. But to give you some exacting information on how to do that, wen adding salt to help treat ich, you need to add at least 1 tablespoon per gallon of the tank. Less is not effective. I wouldn't exceed that amount by much as some fish can be a bit sensitive to excess salt in the water.

As far as the increased temperature is concerned, Ich is damaged by heat at 85F and is killed in large part at 87.5F. So to truly benefit from heat you need to increase the temperature to 88F

well... when i treat my tanks for ick...i remove the carbon filter only... u can make a filter for ur tank out of a scrub pad found at the dollar stores this will help keep the tank clean with out the carbon and u can keep ur filter running ... even if u dont make a filter keep the pump running the fish need the air that the filter puts into the water...most meds say repeat daily for 7 days with a 25 % water change after the 7 days....after the 7 days u can put ur carbaon filter back in... if u leave it in the carbon will remove the meds from the tank and ur fish will not get better so... make sure it comes out....

The water turning blue is normal, You should have removed any deco as it will get dyed blue,. And you still have to run the filter (without the carbon in it.) You should allso turn the temp up a little and add some tonic salt .

he water will turn blue, that is common in most treatments.

You wont have to turn off your filter, just remove the carbon bag, if it is the whole cartage, then fine take it out but allow the pump to keep moving.

the water must keep moving.

For alittle extra power to cure ich, add aquarium salt, and increase the water temp.
