Hi, cheapest place on the net has got to be ebuyer. Don't buy one off ebay unless you can view it first and see that it is new and not one of those refurbished or demo ones that are sold as new, Don't buy dell as they don't like you ringing tem on when it goes wrong or doesn't work.

Packard bell and advent are absolute rubbish as they use cheap inferior parts. I should know as have had 2 of their desktops. The last one was £700 and was 3 and a half years old when I had to throw it away as the power supply unit failed and fried the motherboard. Found out afterwards this was caused by the power supply unit only being just big enough to do the job compared to being on top of the job.

I have bought 3 laptops in the last year. Two of them are Acers, one dual core mid range machine which my son uses for web design and a basic model. Both machines are excellent value for money. One is a year old and the other 6 months and have had no problems. My basic £400 machine knocks the socks of my previous packard bell in every area. I have just bought a toshiba laptop for my daughter as I couldn't find a 15.4" acer for the same money.

Check out the link below and don't forget that advent are made by packard bell as well. Whatever you buy make sure it has at least 1gb of ram

You can try Walmart and or dell. Walmart has some good prices on cheap low end laptops. Dell also has great deals on there low end products. You can also try Dell's outlet store online. Great deals there too.

You can probably get a laptop for under $500 at these online stores. You can also try ebay and buy from Wholesalers.

TIP for you
Black Friday (the day after thanksgiving) is a great time to shop for laptop bargains. Walmart last year had laptops for about $250-$300. Other stores like Best Buy also had great deals on laptops for about $400. You might have to spend a night or two by the stores front door.

Be safe and shop smart!

There are some excellent bargains in reconditioned as new laptops with a full warranty. Also a lot of brand new at discount prices. It's also a good magazine if you want to know a little more about how things work. Hope this helps

Lowest prices are now in the 400-500 range. Good models include the Compaq C500 and Toshiba Sattelite.

Apple sell refurbs, fully warranted, on Wednesdays and Thursdays - usually sold out by Friday.

Apple may not be your thing - but you might consider them if the price is right.

If you are getting new one, I would recommend Dell. So far, it is the best value. The machine is good.

If you are looking for anything new, go to www.pricewatch.com, and catch other brand...some you may notheard of.

If you are looking for used, i think it is best to get from your neighbor. At least you get to see the laptop...else if you get from internet, it may arrived as a piece of junk.

Good luck with your purchase.
