Which is better, Bissell or Hoover? My carpets are dirty and I only have carpet in 2 rooms in my house and I am not sure which machine will do the best job for occasional use. Help.

I love my Bissell just because it has worked so well and we have had it for 8 years and I wash the carpets in our home every 4 months because they are very high traffic areas and it still works like it is brand new.

I have a "THERMAX" and I love it! It is a vacuum and a carpet cleaner- and very easy to switch from one to the other (only changing the head) unlike some of the other multi use machines are ( like rainbow, kirby, etc) It is a canister model but can still store easily on it's side when not in use. It is also an air cleaner. It is a water based machine... 'vacuums' putting the dirt into water filled canister- so there is no dust going back into the room- the same concept when you use it as an air cleaner. You can add 'scenting oils' to the water when you do this if you want to to give your home a nice clean- but not over-powering smell. The machine is a bit pricey- but for the mulit-uses and longevity of the machine. You may never have to replace it. www.thermaxaf.com

No carpet cleaning machine is better than two steady hands, I can tel you that! Besides, since you don't have so many carpets to clean and since you do it just occasionally...

Besides, hand cleaning the carpets is a good opportunity for having a good time with your family - think about that!

the best thing i have found is clorox 2 it cleans everything that a machine cant get to, i use it on my furniture and also on my car carpet in my car, i mixed it with very little water and scrub the stain with a cloth, then blot it dry, tada,it leaves a great clean smell too!!

for the hassle of the job and it will not be done that well
Consider Stanley Steamer or someone professional.
I used a service in the past and it is almost the same as the rental and they do a much better job.

I absolutely love my Dyson. They have that new 'slim' that would store easy for your 2 rooms.
