I have no spare tank, can I breed the danios using marbles/pebbles in the same tank as the others if I use the marbles to trap the eggs? I could get a breeding trap to go inside it but is it possible to do it without?

The chances of them breeding are slim unless you "condition" them. Breeding traps are for live bearers. The fry will be eaten by the adults.
Marbles will help. So will plants, real or plastic, but you really need to remove the adults to have more than a very few survive.
