Find for the values of x and compare the 2 equations:

1st: 3(x + 3) > 2(x - 1)
3x + 9 > 2x - 2
x = - 3 > x = 1
-9 + 9 > 2 - 2
0 > 0 is false; they are equal to each other

2nd: x + (2/3) < 5
x = - (2/3)
- (2/3) + (2/3) < 5
0 < 5 is true

3rd: (x - 6)/5 > 5
1/5x - 6/5
1/5x = 6/5
x = 6
6 - 6 > 5
0 > 5 is false

4th: (2x + 3) / 7 < 2
2/7x = -(3/7)
x = - (2/3)
- (2/3) + 3 = 2 1/3
2 1/3 < 2 is false

5th: 3 < 2x + 1 < 11 is false and true
2x - 1
x = - (1/2)
3 < - 1 < 11
3 < - 1 is false, - 1 < 11 is true

1. 3(x+3) > 2(x - 1)
3x + 9 > 2x - 2 // - 2x
x + 9 > -2 // - 9
x > -11

2. x + (2/3) < 5 // - (2/3)

x < 5-(2/3) = 4 + 1 - (2/3) = 4 + (1/3)

3. (x - 6)/5 > 5 // multiply by 5

x-6 > 25 // +6

x>31

4. (2x + 3)/7 < 2 // multiply by 7

2x + 3 < 14 // -3

2x < 11 // divide by 2

x < 5.5

5. 3 < 2x + 1 < 11 // -1

2 < 2x < 10 // divide by 2

1 < x < 5

3x+9 > 2x-2
x+9 > -2
x > 7
2. x+(2/3) < 5
x < 4 1/3
3. (x-6)/5 > 5
x-6 > 25
x > 31
4. (2x+3)/7 < 2
2x+3 < 14

1. 3(x+3) > 2(x-1) distribute

3x+9 > 2x-2 collect like terms (sub 2x from both sides, and sub 9 from both sides

= x > -11

2. x+(2/3) < 5 I like to clear out fractions. Mult each term by 3.

=3[x+(2/3) < 5]

=3x +2 < 15 sub 2 from both sides
= 3x < 13 divide both sides by 3
= x < 13/3

3. (x-6)/5 > 5 Clear out fraction. Mult both sides by 5

=5[(x-6)/5 > 5]

= x-6> 25 add 6 to both sides

x>31

4. (2x+3)/7 < 2 clear out fract by mult by 7

=7[ (2x+3)/7 < 2]

= 2x+3 < 14 sub 3 from both sides

= 2x< 11 divide both sides by 2

= x< 11/2

5. 3 < 2x +1 < 11 you can break this into two problems to simplify, or simplify as is. Let's break it into two this time.

3 < 2x +1 and 2x +1 < 11 see if you can solve this one !
