I am advised that the diesel engine cars, unlike petrol cars, should run regularly or else the engine life would reduce.. it is true? Is it okay to keep a diesel car idle for months without using? technical replies would be appreciated.

There is no difference in the basic mechanical workings of a gas and diesel engine. Therefore what applies to one applies to both in this instance.

Gas or diesel should be ran every so often to keep the oil coating on the parts. If you let engines set for long periods, the oil coating will drain off and then when you do start it, it will get more wear until the oil gets pumped up to the cylinders and heads. Plus it keeps all your other parts in working order, like PS pump, AC seals lubricated, and the battery charged. good luck.
