If you are on your own, take the train. It will cost about $10. The train goes to Central Station then round the City Circle stopping at Town Hall, Wynyard, Circular Quay, St James and Museum so there will be a station close to where you want to go. If there are two of you, a taxi might be worth considering, if there are three of you, take a taxi - it costs about $30 (more in heavy traffic).

There are buses but there are also taxis available to go from Botany Bay to any part of Sydney quickly enough. The advantage of a taxi is that you can get taken to any part of Sydney you wish straight away.

catch a bus from the airport, there are several 'state transit' buses which go straight into the city, or you could catch the train from 'airport' to 'central' it is on the same line.
