The Indian test team, is playing England at the moment, and I wondered about the use of their names.

I thought that Singh was a Sikh name. As in Maninder Singh, Harbajan Singh, Sarendeep Singh, and Englands own Mudhsuden Singh Panesar (Monty).

However I see there is an RP Singh and an Mahendra Singh Dhoni playing, yet these two do not wear beards or a patka.

So are these two Sikh or is Singh just a common name like Smith in the UK?

Not that their faith matters much, I was just curious.
