I don't really think there is a true friendship between a guy and girl I think they can be friends but not without it leading to relationship or a crush of some sort....usually as the relationship progresses one of them wants more...Like a relationship of bf/gf thats why best friends that are opposite sexes are more likely to date and even marry. They are attracted to each other from the start otherwise they wouldn't even be friends...

Opposite sex friendships are totally different. It's a different level. Usually has to do with a subconscious desire to be with the opposite sex as much as possible for a whole buncha different reasons. Since that's not possible all the time we disguise it as "friendship".
Anyone who tells you otherwise (i.e., the media) is trying to con you. Especially if it's someone of the opposite sex who tells you this ;)
Like that show "Friends"... Why do you think Ross + Rachael and Monica + Chandler went from just friends to more than just friends? Granted it's just a sitcom, but there's an important lesson in there.
Is the only female monkey in the group "just friends" with all those other male monkies? I think not! He he he...
Is not just the sex thing though... Also has to do with the subconscious love issue that will never allow a "true friendship" between a guy and a guy to be the same as one between a girl and a guy.

There is, until their hormones get in the way.
And it can still exist, after they have gotten their hormones out of their way.
The question is how: do they suppress them or release them?
That was the sexual answer.
The human answer is yes.
We are all people.
The sociological answer is no, I need a male dictionary of the same language in order to communicate with a boy.
The only way a boy can understand a girl is that if the boy thinks like a girl, or the girl thinks like a boy.
Basically goes for any communication, step inside the shoes of the other person.
I find most of my friendships with boys limited by or maintained by our gender difference.
If I have a problem, I would tell a GIRL.
She'd have the sense and sensitivity to understand it from "our" side of the gender divide.
Hmm...not so true. I would also tell one of my male friends. I think they are capable of understanding, if told in the right way.

genuinely! this concept that a quickly boy and a quickly female won't be able to be merely acquaintances without one falling for the different quicker or later is ridiculous! I even have loads of platonic "merely acquaintances" relationships with boys that i've got widespread for years and not something romantic or in any different case has ever come from them.

They can start out as friendships but one of them usually expects something that isn't there. I am experiencing a case like that at the present time! He is my friend..period...but he wants it to go up a level or two!

It can happen. I have a couple of women I treat as friends, without thinking of sex on either part. Sure it's different, because men and women think differently, but that can help both parties to see a different viewpoint. It's very rewarding.

I kind of think not because there seems to always be a little flirting involved in guy/girl friendships.

Nope, after a certain age, I believe there's no such thing as friendship between two sexes, unless one is gay. Someone always wants the other, if you don't believe it, it's your friend who wants you.

There is! I have a very close friend who is a girl. I think she might have a bit of feeling with me in the beginning, but we now become very good friends and talk about everything in the world.
