It all depends on how things go. If all fine they can let you out after 8 hours but sometimes espescially with your first they like you to stay in 1 night if poss. Also depends on the hospital, ask they midwives and they will tell you their protocol

Hi, Usually your stay in hospital will depend on how you feel after the birth, for example, if you have had to have stitches, any bleeding and general health. And the health of the baby, how well it keeps its temperature, feeding, weight etc. Provided everything is fine with you both you could stay in for as little time as 6 hours. The baby will have to have seen the paediatrician before you will be discharged as well. Also obviously if you have the baby in the middle of the night you wont be allowed home till the next day. When I had my first child I had to stay in for two nights as she wouldn't feed very well, but when I had my son I stayed in one night by choice. A friend of mine came home the same day as having her baby. It really does depend on a few factors but basically anything from the same day, to a few days, or up to a week for a c-section. Hope this is of some use

It's up to you - you could leave an hour after the baby is born if you wanted to, they cannot make you stay.
Most insurance coverage will only pay for 48 hours after a vaginal delivery or 4 days after a c-section.
In all honesty, there is no real reason you need to stay more than 24 hours if you are medically stable. Many women like to treat their hospital stay much like a hotel stay - friends and relatives like to say "you might as well take advantage of the nursery since you won't have help at home", but IMO, that is not the right attitude to have. You will find that you are much more comfortable in the privacy of your own home, and it's much easier to bond with your baby in a familiar environment.

if a baby is born before 12 noon and both baby and mother are well then you can be allowed home after 6pm that same day. However no one can predict how long you will need to be in hospital. It all depends on how well you and your baby are after birth. The doctors need to ensure that your baby is feeding well and able to emptu his or hers bladder and bowels. They also need to ensure that your not bleeding to much or in to much pain and discomfort. With this being your 1 st child I would recommend that you attend ante-natal classes this will help you prepare for the birth and for when your baby has arrived. Mirriam stoppard has a great variety of books especially for first time mums, Good luck

I was discharged from the hospital 7 hours after my daughter was born. She had to be transferred to a better hospital, so they let me go so I could go with her. I could have stayed 2 days though. I highly recommend staying as long as possible. At the hospital, there's someone to help you with everything and take care of you. Plus, you really do NEED that rest after having a baby. I felt like a truck hit me for about a week after my daughter was born. I would have loved to have a couple days to rest before having to take on all the responsibilities of a newborn!

I was in the hospital for 2 and half days, but my sister-in law that just had her baby was at the hospital for one day. I think it really depends on you and your baby's condition and the hospital. I'm glad I was at the hospital for those days because I was a first time mother and with no family in town it really helped me and my husband adjust to our new baby.
By the way, if you have a c-section expect to be at the hospital a little longer.

Usually 48hours if all goes well. Sometimes if they are in need of a bed, you'd be out within 24.
There is no one keeping you in the hospital, even if doctors and nurses say so. If you want to go home, just tell them you are leaving now, and up yeah get. Nothing can stop them if you want to be at home resting and healing.
Some women like staying in the hospital for a day or two to 'rest' away from older children and prying neighbours. Up to you.

In my area, for a vaginal devliery with no complications (or no serious ones at least), you stay about 24 hours, sometimes a bit more depending on when you devlier. Usually, you go home the afternoon the day following devliery. For example, if you give birth at 1am, you won't go home that coming afternoon, but the afternoon on the next day. For a c-section, usually no more than 3 days.

depends if you have a natural birth or section. at least 24 hours for a natural birth as long as you are feeling ok and baby is feeding well, they will not let you go home if baby is not feeding correctly, they will not chuck you out just because they are busy and need beds they will keep you in as long as you want to stay. if you end up having a section then it is 3 days min again depending you are ok and baby feeding correctly. good luck

With your first they like to make sure the baby is feeding properly and you're happy to go home. The doctor has to see you before he discharges you.
For me I gave birth early Friday morning and they kept me in overnight as baby was only 5pounds 8 ounces and as it was a Saturday it was difficult to get hold of a doctor so I pushed for it as I couldn't get any sleep in hospital. They did let me out on the Saturday late afternoon.
