Is there someone who might be able to shed more light on this story, and explain further why there should have been an Insurrection in the first place?
Also...Could the Norman Invasion have had more hidden motives other than William`s desire to fullfill his claim to the English throne? Might there have been, for example, some connection with the now popular theme of the Templars?

There was an insurrection in the north of England which was viciously put down - an incident known as The Harrowing of the North Why was there an insurrection? Simple really - the Anglo-Saxons didn't like the yoke of the Normans. The conquest what nothing whatsoever to do with the Knights Templars who didn't exist at the time - they appeared at the time of the Crusades
