You need a DSL Router to get on the net right. Just get one with 2 or more ethernet ports on it. Then connect your computers directly to it! Set both PC's to use automatic use the IP (Router will issue one to the PC's)

DSL modem is a router you do not want another one

go to your local computer store and get a network HUB
they also come in wireless if you prefer

PLUG the DSL modem into UPLINK port
if wireless install transmitters into PC's
if wired run ethernet cables to hub from each PC

you need to set up networking on both PC's
Network Wizard makes it easy

then call the ISP for your service
and have them activate the Second IP
you will need to share the internet connection

you will also be able to share files between computers
and share printers even CD and DVD burners

I put a disc in wifes computer and burn copy on mine

It is actually simple. The modem that has the connection from your provider has a Cat5 connector for computer. From here, you will go to a Internet connection on a router. From the other Cat5 ports on the router you can run a cable to the Network connector on the computer if equipped. It is on the back and looks like a big telephone connector and has only one port on the card. Most laptops have had them built in for the past 5 or 6 years. If the computer does not have the cards installed, you will have to purchase and install them. To go wireless; get a wireless router (Linksys WRT54G is a good one), and get Wireless/USB adapters for the computers. The wireless router also has 4 wired connection on them. If wireless be sure to set up or get help to change the login password, change the channel to 11, and setup some type of security(WEP, WPA or MAC filtering).
