Why not feed them at home (they can scream your own house down and not disturb others.) Wait until they know how to behave before taking them on a plane and make sure they do (I've seen/heard many older kids having tantrums/singing sessions on planes where their parents don't even try to stop them).

I was taught to behave as a kid, some parents nowadays let them do as they like...they don't teach them how to behave in public.

Mini, I agree, children will behave like that unless checked...it's what kids do...it's bad parenting to allow them to.Just you try telling one of the little 'angels' to behave and you'll get a mouthful of abuse from them AND their (so-called)parents.

Moonstone...that's exactly my point..we were taught how to behave when we were children, (some) parents today seem reluctant or unable to do so.

Their parents are simply scum!
I have seen this situation far too many times.Often the parents have a defensive attitude with acerbic comments levelled at anyone who so much casts a disapproving glance in their or little johnnys direction. Thus demonstrating they are fully aware of the antisocial behaviour and discomfort of others.
It is a classic example of the falling standards and education of our country ravaged by the Blair years.
I would wish that the good people would show solidarity in such situations in condemnation of the parents attitudes.
If someone was to say" hey! why dont you be a proper responsible decent considerate person and parent and shut that brat up!",then unfortunately it would probably be that person who would be ejected from the venue rather than the inconsiderate family.
Back to basics!

Well, I don't know about being banned, but I hate that, too. I don't go on a plane often, but when I do it's a long flight and there is always someone screaming. I think it's the parents fault most of the time, I was brought up to be quiet, my parents would have kicked my *** if I behaved like some of those children. But I also know from one of my friends that some children are like that and the parents can't do anything about it, they're called cry babies and it drives the parents crazy as well. But most of the time the parents are just too lazy to teach their children to behave right.

Parents don't train their children to behave and the saying "They are only children" should be baned. We had to behave when we were small kids and it really wouldn't have entered our heads to behave the way children do now. Some parents don't know how to behave themselves so what hope do the children have and so it will go on down the line to the next generation

I remember a flight where the baby was being held by the mother who was sat next to me. The father was sat on the other side of the mother. The baby was screaming, dribbling on me and kicking me and neither parent did anything. I got up and found a spare seat. We have all been babies, but parents should show more responsibility. Maybe airlines could make a special area on the plane for kids so that they can be more comfortable too.

Because I don't have any children, I feel very inclined to agree with you (if anyone reading this has ever spent an 8 hour flight being 'kicked' in the back by the toddler behind you, you'll know what I mean).
However, if I had young kids, then I expect I would be outraged by your answer!
Out of curiosity, I wonder how many people are going to mention Maddie McCann in this!!!

Again, I have to blame the parents. A child doesnt know how to behave unless you teach it.
The parents should be penalised if their little "darling" shows bad behaviour. Yes, they should be escorted from restaurants and fined if they cant control their children on planes (with the exception of babies).

Yes, particularly if they are anti-smokers. That will show them that intolerance spreads. However, as breast feeding is OK in public, I am sure that selfish parents will get away with imposing their children onto you in the most inappropriate circumstances.
Some of your respondents have kicked off by assuming that you were blaming the kids. I didn't get that impression. Also, I wouldn't take very young children on a plane, out of respect for other passengers, and because I don't think that it can be good for the child. Now it really hurts when you have paid for business or first class travel. That is incredibly selfish on the part of the adults, and it shouldn't be allowed, particularly on long haul.

If you had a kid who started screaming on a plane you wouldn't want to be kicked off... but YES it's the worst thing ever when some one else's kid starts having a fit.. Granted, the parents might be to blame but I have also seen kids who just wont stop! Maybe there could be a child section which is sealed off and sound proof.. Hehe..

You are so right! Let me add, as a mom, that I often see these screaming children out during nap times and when they have gotten so hungry they can't help but scream. People are selfish, as a whole, and totally disregard the needs of their children next to what they want to do. And to you guilty ones....we shop at the grocery after 10 PM so as to not run into you selfish people with your screaming kids. Take those kids home and put them to bed where they're supposed to be!

It's unfair that you put the blame on the kids coz after all they're just kids who sometimes don't know how to differentiate right and wrong.
It's the parents' responsibility to teach and educate them how to behave properly in public. I think kids who don't behave are simply reflection of their parents.
So kids who can't behave shouldn't be banned, it's the parents who need to be banned.
