Though I have yet to experience this, and, hope I never do...I think the scariest ones would either be poltergeists or the ghosts that materialize as black forms and shadows that stand at the edge of your bed at night, or right next to it, or in doorways, end of hallways, etc.
Just the idea of waking up out of a sound sleep to see a black figure just standing right in the middle of your room scares the heck out of me.

Not really a 'ghost' as such, but if you saw a padfoot/black dog you may just sh*t yourself. It is usually an omen that either you or someone close will die soon.
As for specific spirits. There are no exact types, ghosts/spirits are just that. Each can move objects as believed of poltergeists and so on.
They are all scary and i spent 20 years of my life sharing a room with a spirit in my mothers home, it doesnt lessen as time goes by.
Even if they mean no harm its still scary, it has to be, its something that is not naturally of this plane of existence stood there in front of you (well, floating or whatever its doing).
If ANYBODY claims it is not a scary thing, then i would say 100% they are lying.

Ghosts in general are scary, but poltergeists are the scariest. Think about something you cannot see or fight against that can interact with the world violently if it wants to. Nothing scarier then being attacked by something and you can't do anything about it. Trust me I found out the hard way and got a scar or two to prove it.

Demons are your scariest. I experienced the same demon twice. the first time this thing terrorized for months. I heard growling, snarling, scratching, tapping, explosions. This thing pushed, and shoved.I could feel his hands on my back. he liked to wrap the vacuum cleaner around my ankles. How do I know it was a demon? I prayed that God would let me see what had been terrorizing me. And I did. This thing was shorter than me,short curly black hair, stocky Pasty white skin, and no eyes. When I saw him, I screamed at him and told him I have had enough he had to go. And I thought he was gone. Until about 2 weeks ago, I saw him squatting in the bathroom, in the dark. This all happened at the place I work.

Actually, I found the experience quite interesting and exciting. My wife and I were in bed in a holiday cottage in the wilds of Tenbury, Worcs. It was just breaking dawn.
It started with two different noises, a tap on the window, and the sound of boots being thrown into the fireplace in the bedroom. Then a half-figure of a small man with sacking covering his shoulders walking and disappearing out of the doorway. The door was shut!
We came to the conclusion that the tapping on the window was a `knockerupper` telling the farm labourer it was time to go to work. The noise of the boots in the fireplace was him putting his boots on.
The strange thing this was this: I did not hear the sound of the boots, and my wife did not hear the sound of the tapping on the window. It stands to reason that one of us must have heard both sounds, but that didn`t happen. Later we heard the scrape of a wooden chair in the kitchen downstairs.
True story.

poltergeist, we had one years ago it used to turn the downstairs taps on full blast in the early hours of the morning or knock on walls but only in the living room for some reason wether we where in there or not, it would also make a flashing light happen which looked a bit like a flash from a camera, and hide things like my tools which would then turn up in stupid places like under towels in the airing cupboard or the bread bin, pipe smoke smells , my missus shouting of me from upstairs even when she was at work and vica versa, toilets flushing themselves etc etc it was a freaky time really and scared us until we finally moved out and never went through that experience again touch wood.

The "scariest" ghost one could ever encounter would be the vindictive or vengeful ghost.
This is the spirit who has a mission of vengeance to complete and, God help you if you are in it's way or even worse, if YOU are the one whose lifeforce it is out to destroy.

I didn't see one but one time I did hear what sounded like little kids laughing. There was not even the slightest chance kids were there, the house was miles from anyone and finally the was no tv or radio on at the time. It was very real and very scary to me.

The one that comes towards you as a mist. You think it's a mist until it passes by you and it is intensely cold. You haven't seen anything other than mist. No human form, and your mind is in overdrive.....
