what was the aim ?
who was the founder?

INC was founded in the year 1885 by A.O Hume.

The first session was held at bombay. W.C. Bannerji was the president of the session. Nouroji, Bannerji, Malaviya, Ranade, Gokale& Feroz shah metha were among the leaders attended.

Its aims were:
1. Increasing the number of constituencies
2. Development of education
3. Freedom of press
4. Set apart the dept of justice from the English administration
5. Reqt to conduct ICS exams in India itself
6. Urge to reduce the military expenditure


The period b/w 1885 & 1909 is said to be “The Period of Moderates”
Nouroji, Bannerji, Ranade, Gokale& Feroz shah metha were Moderates.
Their methods of agitation were criticizing the policies of Govt. and requesting reforms.

Thilak, Lajpath Ray, BC Pal, Aravind Gosh ,Nethaji & V.O.C. were among Extremists. They believed in self-rule and demanded for it. The English rulers supported the moderates.

Gandian phase started after the end of first world war. Non – co – operation movement, Salt sathyagraha and Quit India Movement were his special agitations. Ahimsa was his prime aim. The moderates and the extremists came into one fold after the advent of Gandhiji.
