Laxative junkies lose weight because the body doesn't have enough time to absorb as many calories. The laxative causes you to pass stool much faster than normal.

You can lose weight with laxatives, but you are also losing water and other nutrients that your body needs. "Dieting" like this can cause your metabolism to slow down, thus increasing the rate of weight gain after you stop taking them. Honestly, if you feel that you have to do it this way, keep in mind that this method is pretty much only good as a temporary solution (i.e. fitting into those jeans/pants/that dress that you could wear a few days ago), not a long-term one! True story: I was trying to get into the Army, and needed to lose 15 lbs in two weeks. I took laxatives the first couple of days and didn't eat anything for one week straight. I lost 8 lbs. The second week, I used the Hollywood diet (that orange/citrus drink that is sold in some drugstores), and I lost 7 lbs in 3 days. But like I said, you will gain the weight back twice as fast when you go back to your regular eating habits.

The laxative method of weight control is based on the fact that the laxatives cause the bowel to become stimulated and the food moves through at such a higher rate of speed/time that the WATER which is supposed to be reabsorbed by the large intestine does not have a chance to be reabsorbed. Diarrhea is mainly loss of water and water weighs. You do lose the full benefit of the consumed food as the food is moved right on through as well. Not to be gross, but you will see more food particles in the dark colored water expelled by the body. Absorption of water, vitamins and other nutrients
is dulled because the bowel is "moving too fast" This is dangerous on several levels. First you are at risk of dehydration. If you do this frequently, you are at risk of deficiencies of much needed nutrients. It is at best a temporary fix as the consumption of water puts "weight" back on almost as quickly as it left. Laxatives misused for weight loss can lead to a lifelong need as the bowel starts needing the stimulation for you to defecate. Not a good health practice.

Yeah, You won't crap out the calories but diareah (sp?) contains a lot of water- in which is leached out of your system as your bowels over evacuate. Since water weighs 8.34 pound per gallon you will notice a difference on the scale as water is pulled from the cells You are just losing water, not fat. This can be VERY dangerous as it can cause a fluid and electrolyte imbalance. This is why you hear of babbies dying from diareah in third world countries all the time. If you are considering this option, DON'T!

No they just make you lose your body fluids for a while until they're replaced when you drink. Technically for a while you loose a couple of lbs.

Laxatives do cause weight loss, along with many very serious, even life threatening, side effects. Don't even try it.
