Try slimfits tampons.
Only use tampons if your flow is heavy.

If it hurts...
1. Your flow is too light 2. You didn't insert it far enough

If all fails start with pads

Well, you should first make sure that you're using the right size tampon. Since this is your first time using tampons, you should look for junior sizes or at least buy a regular or light absorbency level tampon. Tampons do not usually hurt if inserted correctly and if they are the correct size. The tampon should be completely inside you and only have the string barely hanging out so you can change tampons later. You were probably just nervous and uncomfortable about putting a tampon in your vagina. You'll get the hang of it if you practice. It may help to talk to your mother about it too. She can talk to you and make sure you're inserting it properly. It takes some young women a long time to get it right.

i've been using them for over a decade and they still hurt me now and then.
try going to a smaller size first. you should never use a tampon bigger than you absolutely need. they have different absorption amounts. i'm not sure how you "measure" menstrual flow in actual ounces but i know that if you need to change them way too often, you need a bigger size. if the tampon comes out relatively clean after a couple hours, you need a smaller size. during the course of your period, you should be using two or three different sizes.
if it REALLY hurts, stop using them and talk to someone first. i realize that its not always mom who can help but you can't just do it on-line. you need a grown person in your life who is well educated and can answer you honestly.

don't take shortcuts when it comes to your body. get it right the first time cuz you don't know how little mistakes are going to affect you for the rest of your life. ask lots and lots and lots of questions.

I don't really suggest tampons for a first timer. You're too new and inexperienced in the matter of periods. I'd wait a few years.
It shouldn't hurt at all. If you're tense, it's going to hurt, so stop and try later. Get the 'teen' slender sized ones with plastic applicator, they are much easier.

If you're not bleeding a lot, it can hurt because you're dry. Or if the tampon is too big. Or sometimes it hurts if you use the ones without the plastic or cardboard applicator.

Definitely talk your mom, or someone else you trust that's done this before! And sometimes it just takes a little practice to get it in right! :)

It can if the size is too big or one is tense. What I used to do is insert one finger in to my vagina and then slide the tampon along that way.

I would also recommend talking to your mom about this for additional information.

If you don't get the tampon straight -meaning you may have turned it slightly to one side- and that hurts! It takes practice, if it's important to you. Pads are fine, too, so don't force yourself. Just take your time.

like everyone said...start with a smallest size....& make sure ur bleeding enough.....

but also..make sure ur inserting it in the right place. it might take a while to get the right angle and area, because trust me, its difficult at first. and it hurts if ur not pushing it in the right place.

dont worry, it took me 2 years to get comfortable with even TRYING to put tampons in. but now i luv them. theyre definetly worth it. lol.

you should switch to a slim applicator, and believe me, you'll see a huge difference if you use a plastic applicator, goes in smooth
