You can plant these Perennial plants that are not liked by deer:
Yarrow, monkshood, anemone, columbine, Artemisia, butterfly weed, astilbe, Ecinachea purpurea, false indigo, bergenia, marsh marigold, cornflower, delphinium, bleeding heart, foxglove, wood fern, purple coneflower, fleabane daisy, Joe-pye weed, spurge, blanket flower, crested gentian, baby’s breath, Helenium, coral bells, hibiscus, St. John’s wort, iris, red-hot poker, lavender, Shasta daisy, lupine, Monarda, oriental poppy, Russian sage, obedient plant, Jacob’s ladder, Solomon’s seal, primrose, bracken fern, pasque flower, orange coneflower, perennial salvia, pincushion flower, yellow stone crop, lamb’s ear, Pyrethrum (painted daisy), spiderwort, and speedwell.
Why not try a mix of these flowers?

You can buy wildflowers seeds mixed/ variety pack
they grow best in the Spring and Summer time . These wildflowers are colorful and require lots of sun average watering,wildflowers can endure drier weather. The great thing is being annuals they bloom every year. You can enjoy them more than once.
I'd also suggest planting a tree, maybe an evergreen or a flowering tree. This too is a good idea with less maintenance, still being something nice to see that most animals won't eat

Try a herb like Rocket or Thyme, or even a Mint.You don't say how large a small areais? But herbs will do well, and then you can use them to.

Try Pampas Grass.....it's tall, tufted and pretty at the top, and should grow most anywhere.. I've seen it growing next to a lot
of expressways in rural areas.
