I think it possible now, because it was possible 38 years ago.
Don't you think so, too?

There are no spacecrafts anymore that could fly astronauts to the moon. They were all retired as NASA gave up on the moon program to start focusing on low earth orbit operations. The russians had begun building spacestations and NASA had to keep up. But now there is a new initiative to go back to the moon. NASA is going back and China wants to go there too. And now NASA is redoing pretty much what they did in the sixties. No more fancy smanshy hyperexpensive spaceplanes. They are pretty much copying the old Apollo spacecrafts. Only the will be bigger and roomier and designed for a longer stay on the surface. NASA won´t just go there, plant a flag and then go back. They are going to the moon for the long haul this time around. So they need to build some spacecraft and that will take several years. That is why nobody is able to go today.

We are going back soon. One reason is a proving ground for the Mars missions to come soon after. Also, some of what we have found, a rare form of Hydrogen from the Sun blasting down on the moon as just one of the finds, now has a use given our new technology that was not available a long time back. And 38 years!?! God, I remember watching all that on our old B&W T.V. as a kid, all the moon missions. Hard to believe it was that long.

Of course it is possible. It is a question of funding. The private sector has finally started to take up space flight and hence I would hazard to guess that 10-20 years from now, and possibly sooner, there will be commercial flights to the moon.

Hi. The LEM was designed for a one time use and was not very strong (thin aluminum). We COULD go back with the old technology but for modern use a stronger ship would need to be devised. It has not been yet.

Because it is dangerous and expensive to send people. We already went there so we know what it is like. There no longer is a space race. There are more important things to explore. Robot satellites do the job much better anyway.
