Regardless of gender, I think it is all about self image. A well endowed stud would be more likely to get naked publicly than your average joe. A well endowed woman who has the sex appeal of selma hyak (hope I spelled that right) would probably be more comfortable showing off a little skin than sue next door with the B cup. Another factor that comes into play is modesty and beliefs. There are a lot of beautiful people out there who will remain private because they may consider it immoral to exhibit their nudity in public places. Conversely, there are duds out there who don't give a damn how they look and will flash whoever, whenever, without any regard at all. I am not trying to be evasive, but there are so many factors that could sway the answer one direction or the other. If I had to give a definitive answer based on personal exposure, I believe woman are typically more modest and consequently would be more self conscious than men.

I think it's the person also and not the gender. It's about self confidence and not caring what other people think. I finally realized that ever person on this planet has a part of their body they don't like. So we are all the same. With men, we realize the size of a man's parts vary but the average is about 5.5 " in length. Which, everybody know, it's not that all of the time. Women's breasts are all different sizes also. Some are saggy. Some are perky. Some women's bodies are shapely and firm and some are not. Some have a FUPA. Like I said, It's all about seld confidence.

Men may be uncomfortable with there size. Women are worried about whether or not they measure up to the billboard models in bikinis
not every guy is hung, and not all women look great in a two piece.
so both are self conscious.

It does really come down to the person. Some men are worried about the size issue but there are quite a few men who mind sees thing a bit larger, if you know what I mean. Women are plagued with the Barbie syndrome. They think they have to match up with these "supermodels".
As a nudist, I find that nudists accept people for who they are and not worry about size and shape.

I admit I'm just theorizing here, but I think women are probably more self-conscious about being nude than men are. And I think it has to do with the fact that not too many of us look like your typical MTV diva or fashion models...and society (through the media) makes it seem like we should all look this way...and yet it's not possible to attain that kind of look without plastic surgery, or anorexia...in most cases. The media's image of a femininity is not realistic, and it makes women feel badly about their bodies, and drives them to do drastic things (like surgery) to try to "live up to" the images that they are made to believe they should look like. I think it's really sad. There are teenage girls out there who get boob-jobs before they are even done growing. It's the kind of world we live in, and quite frankly I'm sick of it. Women are actually out there dying..literally, to be thin. And for what? Because they believe they are unattractive or unlovable if they aren't! These messages come from the media, but are supported by men, and sadly, also from the "privileged" few women who actually do look like models. (But trust me, most of them have been surgically altered, whether they admit it or not.) But our young girls don't understand this. They are naive. They just believe what they see. Women definitely have a more difficult time being comfortable in their own natural skin. Just my opinion.

Women don't have things that shrink in the wash, so I guess guys have the self awareness issue with nudity as their ego often revolves around the size of things....

If you are talking about being nude around the opposite sex or mixed sex, I would say definitely women are more self-conscious about being nude.

id have to agree. when a man gets naked its always unexpected what you see
when a women gets naked, well basically every snatch pretty much looks the same, and you can guess what the boobs look like with clothing on. so nothing is a surprise, thats why men are more self conscious

According to the responses above, I guess men, in general, are.
But I've got no problem "dropping trow" in front of anybody.
Guess you can't stereotype, eh?
