You should call and speak to her and ask what she wants, it's always about what she wants.

Especially with first babies, labor can be long and slow, and it could be a long night if you go running to the hospital now.

I went to the hospital for both my niece and nephew. I wouldn't bother her in the delivery room, besides to pop my head in and say "Hi! Congrats!" But I would definitely wait in the waiting room for a glimpse of my little niece or nephew! The baby will likely spend at least an hour in the nursery being monitored while your SIL is resting up, and I guarantee you'll want to spend that whole time with your face pressed up the the glass, looking at his/her sweet little hands and feet and watching him/her breathe!

What does your sister in law want?

Does she want you there while she is in labor, or does she want you to come visit at some point after the baby has been born?

GO! This is your niece or nephew!! You may have to wait a while, but heck it's worth the wait to be there when your newest niece or nephew makes his/her debut! Congrats!

go, go, go! even if she says she doesn't really need you to! unless she STRESSES that she doesn't want you there, she will appreciate that you went there for her! and years from now you can tell your niece/nephew about how you drove to the hospital in the middle of the night just to see her/him into this world! THAT'S HUGE!

CONGRATS!
