I have these weird little bugs all over my room and people are telling me they're fleas. But they were there when I got home, and no one has been home for a week. I have no animals. Can fleas be attracted to something other than people and animals? If so, what?

Finding blood is the primary goal of an adult flea. Thus they attack a wide variety of warm-blooded vertebrates. Adult fleas only have around a week to find food once they emerge, though they can survive two months to a year between meals. So the flea in your room just stays there waiting for any chance of its victim. They would just to stay in a place with warmth - carpets, mattress. That too was a big question in my mind as my family resides in another country and we go on vacation every year in our home country. Our home is closed and nobody stays in there and just looked upon by my in laws who checks our place once in a while. As soon as we arrive there there oh there are stray fleas bothering in the night. That would make my first week of our vacation cleaning and taking most of the things out to sunshine exposure. I even asked, were those fleas just stayed there for a year waiting for us to come or it was just along the neighborhood and "so excited" to greet us? Anyway fleas are quite annoying really so you need to try a way to eliminate even if there is just a single flea in your room. It could multiply before you know it if you will ignore it.

Fleas are attracted to heat and people and animals give off heat. But you need animals to get them there in the first place. It is not unknown for rats to have fleas.

yes, fleas can be attracted to chemical messengers called pheromones. Other fleas give off pheromones to attract mates or to elicit feeding behavior. If there is a chemical in your room that is structurally similar to flea pheromone then fleas will be attracted to the area.

I just doubt they could also be attracted to soil in pots or on the ground. Or they might not be fleas. Clean up the room and use insecticide to get rid of them

Fleas can live in carpet. You need to buy a flea carpet power thing. Sprinkle it over the carpet, leave it in for a week. Then vaccum your house. You can't rely on the vaccum alone, you need something to dry out and thereofre kill the eggs. That's how the power works.

Yeah, other fleas are attracted to them ;)
If they jump, and nip at your ankles then they're fleas, allritght!
Get a big can of flea-powder and dust the carpet. Then wait, and then vaccum it up.

flea pupae can live in carpet a very long time w/out an animal present...
a sweeper vibration is known for shaking them out of pupae state into a flea!... i know that for fact from ridding my dads house of fleas!!!
the key to getting rid of fleas is to vaccum everyday with a bagless sweeper (filter style canister) until you don't see them anymore!!!! empty the canister each time OUTSIDE the house!
