I didn't go, but from what I understand Barnes & Noble served cookies and punch and urged Potter fans to come dressed as characters from the book. They also had prizes and gifts.

Sometimes I would start reading and stay up till morning, but mostly I would buy quickly just to make sure it didn't sell out before I got mine. Then I would read it at my leisure.

think about The Rocky Horror Picture Show...people dress up in costume and just interact with others there. and yes, some will buy it and read it until it's finished no matter the time of day/night.

get drunk and smoke weed, they have a good parking lot scene with drum circles and veggie burritos and falafel wraps for sale by the potterheads so they can get enough money to make it to the next party. really cool scene, lots of tie dye and such.
