When there is self-deception, the victimizer and the victim are the same person, so that is what makes it so wrong.

When another deceives you, you are unaware of the truth; however, when you decieve yourself, you treat the truth as if it were not present (knowing full well that it is).

We lie to people we don't think can handle the truth.
