This is a common misconception. Monkeys did not turn into people. Modern monkeys and humans share a common ancestor, meaning their genetics are similar. Never did a monkey suddenly change into a human. Millions of years ago their was an ape-like ancestor (neither monkey nor human). Slight changes in the genetics(mutations) of this creature allowed them to have an advantage over the previous. If you survive better, then of course reproduce and make new organisms with that mutation. These slight changes continue over millions of years until you get a completely different species. Now humans and monkeys have that same ancestor, but they had different genetic mutations. Think of a tree. The trunk of the tree is the ancestor and one branch is humans and the other branches are the different types of monkeys and other primates. Humans did not come from the monkeys and apes, but monkeys, apes, and humans all stemmed from the same ancestral organism.

We are 23 million years separated from our monkey ancestors. Evolution is undirected; that is, we're not at the "pinnacle of evolution" because there isn't any pinnacle of evolution. The selection pressures present on monkey and ape populations today won't make **** sapiens sapiens out of them.
Please ask this question again in 23 million years.

Some species are the end of the evolution and will not change anymore, for a number of reasons. Some still have the capacity to change, and even some monkey species will, but only in small amounts of change and only if it is really good and can be carried on with new monkey babies. But monkeys are a lot like people and the frequently will not like a big change in their animal individuals. They won't mate with them, they may throw them out of their group or even kill them. People don't like mutations either and anything physical and visible is not accepted and won't get a mate. A change that makes someone super exceptionally smart will be accepted as long as there is no physical change like a big head. We do not encourage mentally deficient people (those with severe problems able to pass them on or not) to get married and have children. That has even sparked huge incidents and the Courts have gotten involved. For these sociological reasons, as well as other more physical reasons, humans are at the end of evolution, and though we may get healthier and even bigger, what you see is it.
The debate has gone on now for a bit, that Earth life in general, will make one more great change, and you guys out there ain't gonna like it. Yep, you got it! No more males in the male/ female relationship. More and more females of a number of animal species are producing offspring without the male. Some species, like a desert skink (lizard) are well on the way to a male-less population. And more and more animals in captivity (animal kingdom which are bugs, fishes, everything) are reproducing and there is no way they can.

And, why do you think there are lots of different kinds of monkeys and five different great apes (humans, chimps, bonobos, gorillas, orangatans)?
All are decended from a common ancestor. All are distant "cousins". Your cousins didn't disappear when you were born.

Your premise is not correct. The **** species broke off the ape chain several million years ago.
