If it's heated hot enough, it makes glass. Other than that, it just gets hot.

Basically, the sand gets so hot that it melts (in a sense) together and then, when cooled rapidly, it doesn't have time to form a crystal lattice (grains of sand), so it stays melted together.

Sand has many uses, but when heated it can be useful in these ways:

Therapeutic sand, used for body massage.

and

It is the principal component in glass manufacturing.

That would depend, one how you apply heat to it. if it's heated past its melting point it will (obviously) melt and fuse with other sand particles.
With enough heat and a few more chemicals, you might isolate Silicon

If heated to a high enough temperature, it melts and becomes quartz or glass etc.

What do you advise "after it cooled"? How do you be attentive to it cooled? i'm guessing that it hasn't cooled thoroughly. once you place the water in it, the warmth left interior the sand heats up the water.

It melts.. and is in most case's made into glass.
