All his clothes strewn around the floor , the music blaring till the walls vibrate , the smell of after shave mixed with boy smells , pictures of ....... or surfers on their boards on the walls ( you fill in the dots ), remnants of last nights takeaway growing under the bed ......getting the picture !

are you taking in a 20 year old that you don't know into your house as a guest or are we talking about your son? btifro2
I'm guessing it's the first assumption cuz by now after 20 years your son should probably feel at home in his own room (unless you go in and pick up his cloths after him and confiscate the stash of Playboy magazines under his bed...etc)
Now for a 20year old to feel at home in his bedroom...he should be allowed to display personal pictures, posters etc...have privacy in his own room

a PlayStation will make this room his home for a loooooong time so if he is a guest don't get one , and after a while he will make it like aussie said
