"his face is the map of the world..ect"..
this is probably a very original phrase meaning...someone who has gained a-lot of wisdom through experience..
someone who has traveled and experienced the world..ect.
at least that is what i gain from the phrase in a literary sense,

It would be "A face like a map of the world"

Most probable meaning. A face that looks like the owner has seen and done it all. Keith Richards has a face like a map of the world.

If it were: "A face like a map". It would most likely mean a face covered with wrinkles, bloches and veins.
