Recent research would suggest that the human animal makes decisions based more on an attempt to limit their perception of losses than making a rational choice between a perception of gains and losses. Furthermore, their perception of losses and gains is flawed in the sense that they do not assess losses and gains rationally. It is also found that their perception of truth and lies are also flawed. This is most commonly observed in gambling behavior. People believe that there is some way to cut their losses by various gambling strategies, but these strategies fail to take into account that with each play they are losing a certain amount and still only winning a certain percentage of the time. All they see is that they are increase the percentage of times that they are winning, but every time they lose, they lose twice as much. People also fail to see the randomness of events and convince themselves that they can somehow make these events less random.

Ration is logic so your question really should be "Is man predominantly Logical and Emotional". Both of which are two different things. Man is mostly Emotional, hense our "Gut instinct" is the first thing we feel. Then comes logic to help us through the problem.
