it's just like writing poetry. songs are all poems. write from experience. for songs, it's best to rhyme, repeat, and have clear patterns.

You can either start by writing the actual music (pitch, rhythm, etc) and then build the lyrics around that or start with the lyrics and then put it to music. Writing lyrics is sorta like writing poem. The words need to fit the rhythm and pitch perfectly or it will sound bad, so you're going to have to spend time rewriting both your words and your music to get it as good as it will become. If you have a background in reading/writing music, that will help, but it's not necessary. You can just do it all in your head and feel your way through the song.
Good luck!!

I know it sounds corny and a little clishe, but let the feeling of the song flow through you and think just start playing. First, make sort of a poem up that relates to the meaning of the song u'd like to portray. Then, when u sing it, think of what key it is in (minor, major, etc.), and start making a chord chart and writing certain chords above each word where u would like the chord to change. But, u just can't write a song without emotion or any inspiration. Just write your song down first, in poetic form, and then see what u can do from there.
