FIFA stands for Federation Internationale de Football Association. Meaning "International Federation of Association Football." Association Football being the full and proper name of soccer (soccer is an abbreviation of Association Football).
Besides the US, Canada, Australia and (I believe) Japan, call it soccer as well.
