It depends on what you mean by "oil".

Once the great pools of petroleum are all tapped out, the Middle East will cease to matter to anyone except Russia, which will still be interested in warm water ports.

Meanwhile, the world will probably still want petroleum, and it will be more economically practical to extract it from coal than it is at present, and guess where about 2/3's of the world's coal is located.

So, basically, when the oil runs out, the world will be likely to become a much more peaceful place.

I'll get back on my horse. Most of Arabia imports it's camels from Australia, since the native beasts are disease ridden and suffer from in-breeding.
You seem to assume that if and when oil runs out, only the oil producing countries will be affected.

When the oil runs out, then I'm sure the U.S. will become an occupation force in the middle east to squeeze out even more... By then we will have magnetic-levitation vehicles, electric cars, and will probably use micro-fusion reactors in every home to process garbage into energy.

We will also likely send out huge auto-refineries into outer space to mine planets & asteroids for valuable minerals. With any luck, we'll import ourselves an Alien and lower the population rate some...

What happens when the oil runs out? Simple - oil-consuming machines will cease to function, unless of course they can be converted or upgraded to another type of fuel.

The exhaustion of oil, within the next forty years or so, has been predicted for the last century. We can have oil for as long as we want it; the only gotcha is that the price will go up.

If the govt stays the hell out of their way, the big oil co's will develop an alternative fuel.
If you think I have confidence in big oil and no confidence in govt, you're right!

We will have to ride horses. Just think how life was 150 to 200 years ago.

Pretty much what we all did before we started using oil, I should imagine!

We either learn to rely on our own natural resources, or else we learn how to walk, ride bicycles, etc. again.
