Do you think it is worth the time, trouble and inconvenience to have a yard sale?

Not for me. When I want something gone I get rid of it right away. Plus you still get a tax write off when you donate to a charity. You just have to estimate the resale value for each item that you donate. Then get a receipt for it. It should take like five minutes.

Now, if you want to meet everyone in your neighborhood, fine go ahead.

Do you have the time and energy to hold a sale? I've had more yard sales in my life than grey hairs....wait, maybe that's why I'm getting quite grey? LOL For me, a sale is a huge pain in the butt and plays with the sentimental side. However, you can bring in some nice cash for the work, especially with your furniture. As long as you have enough to attact customers, and promote your sale, you'll do well. You might ask your neighbors to join in. The more houses, the more people will drop in. (I get the feeling you've done this before, so you know the ropes?) If you don't have the time or energy...donations to any charity are tax deductable and very welcome. If you itemize, you need a certain amount before it will help. Sorry can't remember the figure, but $600 would be a good start. There's the feel good factor too. If you're selling furniture, you might check out some local "junk/antique" shops to buy it. You might be underestimating what you've got. Good luck!

I agree that it takes a LOT of patience and time to have a yard sale. I know quite a few people who have have them and say afterwards that it just wasn't worth the effort. My suggestion would be that if you have more valuable items that you don't wish to donate you could advertise them in a newspaper, a buy'n'sell publication, or online at free classified sites available such as craigslist or kijiji. Other items I would just donate to charities like Goodwill, a women's shelter etc. Some charities will actually come and pick up any items you are donating from your house which is great if you have heavier things such as bookcases or desks.
If you are really interested in having a yard sale, I agree with the person who suggested trying to make it a multi-family or community event.
I think the biggest catch is to ensure you don't keep stuff for an extended period of time because you keep meaning to have a yard sale. It's an easy trap to fall into and is how clutter quickly accumulates!

Well if you have the time and patience to sort through your junk and have a yard sale.. Go for it ! Whatever doesn't sell donate to charity.. It also depends on what kinda "junk" you have, to part with and if you think someone will buy it.. . I'm a donate person I don't have the patience for a yard sale... However, I have a lot of baby clothes that I'm taking to a resale shop to trade up for bigger clothes.. Good luck

Yard sales are a lot of work and take planning and patience. If you have the right temperament it is totally worth it in my opinion. I got married last year and my husband and I had two of everything. We had a yard sale this summer and it turned out great and we made over $500 selling nothing big. For us it was a well worth it to put that money towards our remodeling plans, but I won't lie that it was a lot of planning and work to pull everything off. After it was over we still donated plenty to charity.

Tough question.
Depends.
Yard sales are better with a bunch of different people having them in one place.

If you need a tax write off, then donate. If you can store all in carriers then put them away til you can have a yard sale.Just mark on the carrier whats inside, then save away.I like to put away in the carrier that is small enough to carry without it getting too heavy for me to lift later.Hope this helps.

Donate it. I had a garage sale once, after my folks died and I caught a man with his hand in my purse.

Give it away. Throw it away, Pay to have it hauled away, but yardsales are no fun at all for the person running them.
