Okay here's the situation. Went on vacation two weeks ago. Left my doggie at a kennel, where they gave her a bath on her last day there. I brought her home, she was nice and fluffy. Today I gave her another bath, and noticed she was COVERED in fleas. Totally my fault for not keeping up with her flea medications while sending her to a kennel.

Anyway I freaked out and washed everything she's been in contact with: i.e., her bedding, dog pillow, the towels I used to dry her off, etc. I washed them TWICE, in hot water with detergent and bleach. What I want to know is do you think they died in the washer? Are they hardy enough to infest any of my towels or clothes that I wash afterward? I know, stupid question, but oh well.

P.S. I vacuumed the entire house and applied her flea meds immediately after her bath; I'm specifically wondering about the washing machine.

Probably she wasn't there with the fleas long enough to have major problems, and yes bleach will kill them.
However, you have to be very careful when it comes to fleas.
I've heard that they can burrow into the wood in a house (they did that in a relatives house once.) Sprinkle a little 7dust on the carpet.
You might want to think about wormer for your dog as well. If a dog, or human, swallows a flea they can get tapeworms.

Fleas don't live long in water... However, if you want to make sure the little suckers die.. Run an empty cycle with hot water and bleach. That should take care of any critters... Although, I doubt they would've survived.. If you have a bagless model vacuum DO empty the canister outside and put a cheapie flea collar to kill any live fleas.. If you have a bag vacuum do the same, and throw away the bag...

The fleas died in the warm / hot water.
Not to worry.
But the vacuum very likely did not pick up all the fleas and flea eggs.
You may need to bomb your house to rid your home of those rascals. Especially in the upholstery.

I used a spray for my furniture and carpets by Bengal flea and tick spray. It killed the bloodsuckers at every stage. It lasts 120 days and once I used it I never saw another flea again. I got it at Wal-Mart.
